Is Your Oil Change Routine Of The Past??????

I remember when I was a kid my dad beating it into my head that you always change your car oil at 3,000 miles.  It was just one of those things in life like brushing your teeth.  Your teeth might fall out if you don't brush them and your car.....well...what does happen if you don't change your oil at 3,000?

3,000 was the guideline used by most car manufacturers, but this is simply not true for cars purchased within the last 7 to 9 years.  What has changed?  Oil chemistry and engine technology have improved to the point that vehicles can go up to 7,500 between oil changes.  It seems with the push of everyone being greener wasteless oil changes have come into question.

There are is the question of what kind of driving do you tend to do?  If you spend most of your time on the freeway it should be closer to 7,500 miles.  In town driving would lend to an earlier oil change.

Of course how does this fair for oil change places like Jiffy Lube?  Well they will still get consumers needing oil changes, but not as often.  Most of these places are now leaving the oil change time standard up to the consumer and telling them to check their owners manual for an accurate guide.

There will always be those of us who just like the oil changed at 3,000 miles.  It just feels right.  And what wrong with that?
