Car Crunch!

According to car-accidents.com men by far ranked higher in fatalities in 2006 than woman by a long shot.  To be exact 29,722 to women's 12,747.  Pretty large difference.  I would like to think it's because women are better drivers, but since I have been in several accidents and my husband has been in none, that might not be so true!

I would like to bring out some very important facts and tips that can be useful if you ever find yourself in a fender bender or a larger accident.  First thing always, make sure everyone is okay.  Maybe 911 needs to be called right way due to severe injuries.  Make sure to leave anyone that has severe injuries laying as is.  They could have more serious injuries that you might aggravate by moving.

After everyone has been checked on, make sure you exchange information.  This information includes the person's name, number, address and all of their insurance information.  Sometimes if the accident is bad enough the police will collect all of this information.  But don't bank on that.  Another important tip in this area is to just stay tight lipped.  Don't say anything either way that the other party can either say to the police, their insurance company or to an attorney.  I can't say this enough.  As someone who has worked in the insurance industry they will try and use anything they can.

Another tip is to make sure if anyone is around that saw the accident to get their information as well.  This will prove important later when the insurance companies are trying to figure out who was at fault.  Sometimes these people can also be helpful in trying to help you make calls if need be.  I know in the accidents I have been in it's nice to have someone who is of sound mind to help you dial numbers and think a little more clear.  They can help you with where exactly you are i.e street names, etc., as well.

The last tip is if the police did not show up make sure you go to your local police department to file a police report.  Believe me come insurance time this becomes very important.  Make sure you call your insurance company within the first day of the accident to file a claim.  Time is of the essence with insurance.

I am sure I am missing something that is important or was for others that have been in accidents.  These are the ideas that stand out for me.  What about your experiences with car accidents?  What proved important for you and what did you learn for the next time?
